DELHI RIOTS UNTOLD STORY 2020 BY MONIKA ARORA IN DELHI
“Delhi Riots Untold Story-2020” is a book co-authored by three women - Monika Arora, Sonali Chitalkar and Prerna Malhotra; all achievers in their own right. It is not about them, but what they saw on the ground in North-East Delhi, where riots had erupted in early months of 2020. As Arora, a Supreme Court lawyer, has said, these were, arguably, the worst riots to have occurred in the Capital since the horrific 1984 anti-Sikh riots following the assassination of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, by her Sikh bodyguard. Usually, riots have an element of “suddenness”. But often, we find out later that ‘suddenness’ was a facade. Somebody somewhere is always behind it; often, with vested interested. However, the riots that occurred in North-East Delhi were continuation of a particular kind of thought process, where it appeared that disrupting normal, commercial, societal and cultural activities of a peacefully developing nation was a target.
