Son of Shiva, warrior and protector and upholder of dharma. The all-powerful shodashabhujadhari (sixteen-armed) Roopa (form) of Lord Ganesha is quite the rarity. The panchaloha medium, a bronze made of five (‘pancha’) iron-based (‘loha’) alloys, and the traditional madhuchista vidhana or lost-wax make, add to the value of this Ganesha murti as a work of art. Lord Ganesha Bronze Statue stands on the pistil of an upturned lotus. Along its petals grovels the humble rat, His vahana, adorned in embroidered silk. A shapely plinth beneath the same. A wide variety of weapons and spiritually symbolic implements in His numerous hands, of Shaivite as well as Vaishnavite significance, which in turn is indicative of the omnipotence of Ganesha. This one-of-a-kind Ganesha murti has been sculpted from panchaloha, a bronze made from five (‘pancha’) iron-based (‘loha’) alloys. It is a superior medium unique to Swamimalai, and so is the skill required to work with it. Its crimson-brown color complements the wrath on the brow of Ganesha. The vitarka mudra is of great importance in Buddhist iconography. The enlightened one sits in a stable padmasana and raises the right hand in the stance of dispensing vidya (awareness). This is called vitarka in Sanskrit; while ‘mudra’ refers to the stance of the hands in particular. As you could see in the murti on this page, the forefinger curves forward to touch the tips with the thumb, and the remaining fingers as well as the palm of the hand remain outstretched. Such a mudra adds to the stability, serenity, and equanimity associated with Gautama Buddha. He is in the perfect, prolonged padmasana, with the alms bowl in His left hand and deep, seedless samadhi (yogic contemplation) writ large over His handsome brow. As such, the erstwhile Shakyamuni is the very picture of sattvaguna (the stability attribute of all things). The glistening color of molten gold adds to the aesthetic appeal of this pure brass murti. From the hems of His raiment spread beneath Him to the embroidered sections along its silken lengths, the sheer proportion of detail makes this work of art an investment buy.
