Did you know that when in grief, Chinese people don white shoes? Or, is it true that Chinese widowers typically lament their wives for two years, whereas the newlyweds mourn for three years? Since prehistoric times, foreigners have travelled to India. From their accounts, we learn specifics about the sociopolitical and cultural features of those periods. A merchant from England named Ralph Fitch arrived in India at the end of the sixteenth century. He travelled via the Mediterranean, the Syrian shore, Baghdad, the Tigris River, and Basra in Persia before reaching India. He continued from Basra to the harbour of Hormuz, where the Portuguese apprehended him and took him to Goa. Fitch progressed from Agra to Bengal, where he finally arrived after five months. Read Ralph Fitcher Bhramankahini- a translation of J.H. Ryley's original English-language version and get transported back in time.
