Hindu religion is a massive expanse spanning countless sects, traditions, and cultures. While some are just nice and elegant, some go beyond the societal norms to realise their spiritual quest. In her essence, Kali is the divine protector of her devotees, protecting them from the forces of evil, and bestows her grace upon those who open their hearts to her. This brass statue depicts kali in her fierce form with the traces of Tantra clearly visible in her appearance. With her left leg placed on the chest of Lord Shiva, she looks fearless and vibrant with the energy she possesses. Holding various weapons in her hand, she has declared an open war against the forces of evil. She is also holding a human skull in her hand, symbolizing her as the demolisher of ego, the biggest step towards liberation. The garland of skulls that she is wearing adds to her fearsome look. Though she is clad in bare clothes and minimum jewelry, her crown is glowing with its grandeur and immensity, sporting a brilliant work of delicate carvings. This three feet tall gold-like glittering brass statue, a highly accomplished example of the art of metal casting, represents Krishna in flute-playing Tribhanga three-curved form. As if overwhelmed by the melody pouring from his flute a phenomenon that ears fail to experience but whose sweet fragrance the eyes savour, the entire image appears to burst into a divine rapture. The smile, which his cute lips cradle, reveals the inner bliss, which is, perhaps, the most outstanding feature of the iconography of the image. The divine ecstasy, which emits from the flute of Krishna, has drawn the flute player inside out leaving him transformed into a rhythmic trance, which reveals not only in his 'tribhanga' but also in the gesture of his arms a form that combines the essence of music, dance and divine grace. The image uses bold details, but given an exceptionally sensitive treatment, which imparts to it its life vigour, even in such bold details, it discovers its great excellence. The images of the Krishna Brass Statue are usually treated with perceptible emotionality, but instead, this image has around it an aura of transcendence. It is unique in its adherence to classical norms, particularly such as in 'Chitra-sutra' the 'Vishnudharmottara Purana' prescribes. Lord Hanuman sits down balanced on a single knee. He sets the mace down to His right and gathers His hands in the namaskaram mudra. This mudra conveys an acknowledgment of the divine contained within the entity afore oneself. In the case of the great Hanuman, it is none other than Lord Rama before whom He bows. The face with the protruding jaws bear striking resemblance to a monkey. Strong and wide-set shoulders, thighs that are thick and powerful; arms that tore off an entire mountain simply because the beloved brother of Rama was in need of succor. Each aspect of the great yogi, in every sense of the term, has been brought out to perfection in this Hanuman murti. Lord Ganapati is hailed as the chief of the celestial hosts and his various prayers recorded in Vedic texts invoke him as the Law of the laws, Seer of the seers, and Principal of the principals. This tiger eye sculpture of Ganesha is an entirely unique artifact to decorate your surroundings in the beauty of its creativity and the dazzling effect it reflects on being exposed to bright light. The gorgeous trichrome appearance of gold, brown, and black enhances every carved detail in its actual or a more lavish form. The tiger eye stone found its origin in South Africa and Australia, having been named after the shifting shades of a tiger’s eye. Initially, it was used for jewelry making but now with its increased popularity, super hard quality, and silky luster, it is also used for carving sculptures and other ornamentations. As being attributed to the true king of the jungle, the tiger holds a similar value when used for carving the celestial king of Hinduism, Lord Ganesha. Son of Shiva, warrior and protector and upholder of dharma. The all-powerful shodashabhujadhari (sixteen-armed) Roopa (form) of Lord Ganesha is quite the rarity. The panchaloha medium, a bronze made of five (‘pancha’) iron-based (‘loha’) alloys, and the traditional madhuchista vidhana or lost-wax make, add to the value of this Ganesha murti as a work of art. Lord Ganesha Bronze Statue stands on the pistil of an upturned lotus. Along its petals grovels the humble rat, His vahana, adorned in embroidered silk. A shapely plinth beneath the same. A wide variety of weapons and spiritually symbolic implements in His numerous hands, of Shaivite as well as Vaishnavite significance, which in turn is indicative of the omnipotence of Ganesha. This one-of-a-kind Ganesha murti has been sculpted from panchaloha, a bronze made from five (‘pancha’) iron-based (‘loha’) alloys. It is a superior medium unique to Swamimalai, and so is the skill required to work with it. Its crimson-brown color complements the wrath on the brow of Ganesha. On the pistil of an upturned lotus, pedestal stands the steady chaturbhujadhari (four-armed) Ganesha, poised on a quadrilateral plinth engraved with lotus petals. The vertical structures on either side of the same are designed to be wound around with a rope in order to maneuver the sculpture. This Ganesha composition is a panchaloha murti from Swamimalai. Panchaloha refers to a blend of five (‘panca’) iron-based (‘loha’) alloys from which it is made, while Swamimalai is where the ancient bronze sculptural tradition of India thrives to this day. The earthy gold color of the medium, together with the coppery blue overtones, are characteristic of Swamimalai panchaloha. The hallmarks of this being an authentic Indian bronze are the lifelike musculature of the deity’s form, how it conforms to textual iconography and aesthetic details such as the style of crown and pedestal. Note the expressive composure of Ganesha’s countenance and the minimalistic yet powerful engravings on His crown and the flaps of His ears. The vitarka mudra is of great importance in Buddhist iconography. The enlightened one sits in a stable padmasana and raises the right hand in the stance of dispensing vidya (awareness). This is called vitarka in Sanskrit; while ‘mudra’ refers to the stance of the hands in particular. As you could see in the murti on this page, the forefinger curves forward to touch the tips with the thumb, and the remaining fingers as well as the palm of the hand remain outstretched. Such a mudra adds to the stability, serenity, and equanimity associated with Gautama Buddha. He is in the perfect, prolonged padmasana, with the alms bowl in His left hand and deep, seedless samadhi (yogic contemplation) writ large over His handsome brow. As such, the erstwhile Shakyamuni is the very picture of sattvaguna (the stability attribute of all things). The glistening color of molten gold adds to the aesthetic appeal of this pure brass murti. From the hems of His raiment spread beneath Him to the embroidered sections along its silken lengths, the sheer proportion of detail makes this work of art an investment buy.
