RESIDENTIAL PLOT / LAND FOR SALE IN GUDUVANCHERI, CHENNAI IN CHENNAI
Guduvanchery, a fast-growing suburb on GST Road , may replace Tambaram as the gateway to South Chennai with the government planning the establishment of a new mofussil bus terminus for decongesting traffic on the city's outskirts.
Buses bound for south Tamil Nadu will depart from the proposed multi-storey terminus, likely to come up on 30 acres of land situated at Nandivaram in Guduvanchery. "We have sent a report to the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA), suggesting the utilisation of 50 acres of land belonging to the Nandeeswarar Shiva temple. In turn, CMDA has replied that 30 acres of land would be enough for the project," a revenue department official at Kanchipuram district, who is privy to the development, told TOI.
Since the temple is managed by the Government-run Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department, transfer of land will be easy, sources say. Official sources said the government was keen on implementing the project here as it has limited options: it has faced legal issues over using a piece of land at Kilambakkam and opposition by farmers at Vandalur against acquisition of prime agricultural land.
"This (Nandivaram in Guduvanchery) is an ideal location for establishing the mofussil bus terminus as the vacant land is situated adjacent to a local bus terminus from where MTC buses are operated to different parts of Chennai," the official said.
An existing local bus terminus would facilitate changeover of passengers from long-distance buses to city buses (MTC services). The land at Nandivaram is situated 500 metres from the suburban railway station at Guduvanchery, giving commuters an additional option of travelling by Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) trains to reach their destination in the city.
